GENERAL INFORMATION:  The ancient town of Pontremoli (11 miles) has a hospital, and a main line rail station and access to the A15 autostrada La Spezia (20 miles) and Parma (60 miles). Aulla (11 miles) with many retail outlets also has a rail station and access to the A15.

The beautiful Cinque Terra coast of Liguria is less that an hour away (28 miles) by car and is also reachable by rail from our local train station at Villafranca, 4 miles away. Safe and clean beaches are only 40 minutes away by car. Our little town of Bagnone is a superb example of Italian medieval architecture with a 'ponte vecchio' and a fabulous private castle surrounded by the original village high up on the hill overlooking the town and river gorge below.

Bagnone contains all the vital services, including two doctors, three trattorias (restaurants), a pizzeria and five café bars, three banks and a post office, as well as grocers, hairdressers and a chemist. A lively produce market takes place on Mondays.

Excellent large supermarkets are located at Aulla, and Villafranca has 3 medium sized ones also. In Bagnone there is even a theatre, and in the summer an open-air cinema and various local festivals. There are 3 satisfactory ski areas within an hours drive, suitable for weekend skiing.
